It was developed in China in antiquity to print on textiles and paper. The earliest examples of woodblock printing on cloth date back to 220 AD. Tang China was home to woodblock printing by the 7th Century AD. It remained the most popular East Asian method for printing books, images, and other texts until the 19th century.
